Someone entered the stable with a lantern.

"Karigan?" King Zachary called.
She buried her head in her arms, angred by the intrusion. Why couldn't he just let her be?
Another part of her craved him to lend her comfort.

The light flickered and moved down below as the king searched for her. She should be flattered, she thought, that the king of Sacordidia thought enough of his Green Rider to seek her out.

He paused at the bottom of the ladder. She prayed he would go away, and she prayed he would climb up and find her.

The ladder creaked as he stepped on the bottom rung, the light rising and growing brighter as he climbed. When he stood upon the loft, she covered her eyes.

"Karigan," he said, "I'm terribly sorry. For everything, and more than I can ever express. I know you and Alton were close." He sat down beside her, and she willed the grief away, but his presence only seemed to incite it.

"I am sorry," he said again.

Before Kargian could entertain another thought, the grief engulfed her, racking her body with sobs that came from deep down. She didnt know when it happened, but the king had given her his shoulder in which to bury her face. He held her as the sobs took over.

(This is an excerpt from Kristen Britain's second book "First Rider's Call," it is a wonderful story and I hope to have captured this moment as well as this author had described it. If you would like a fast pace, simple book about magic, hope, determination... this is the book to look into. Thanks to my boyfriend Andrew for giving me advice and critique on giving this picture as much detail in this drawing.)

Hey! Yeah, I just love these books too and just had to draw a pic out of love for this author's works. :) I've been re-reading them constantly over the last month, going on a 2nd round reading from the first to the second! =p I did a search on other ppl's fanart and didnt come up with many hits, so I thought to add my own to build up the Green Rider fanart :D
I just reread them over the summer, because I thought the third was coming out soon. But the release date got pushed to next year. ;-;

Well I knew it wasnt coming out anytime soon cause the author has been very up to date on what is going on in her website. So far she has completed the story but its in its editing phase and who knows how long that is going to take, plus she has to find a new illustrator for her cover book seeing as the original illustrator has died :cry:
Aw, I knew she'd completed it and is waiting for it to be edited but I didn't know about the illustrator! Thats sad. =(

can't wait for the next book! love this painting ^_^ - I now have a clear idea of how to thnk of Zachary; i wasnlt sure wether e;d look ebtter with a full beard of just stubble. This is really good and its one of my favourite scenes in teh book ^_^
hahahaha, why thank you! I love this book myself and scored through the pages in locating every detail there was of him. I tried to see how he looked with a bushy beard but it just didnt look right. I am hoping this really gives a good look to him :)
<3 I absolutely love this book. Zachary and Karigan were so sweet together, I was so dissapointed when the book ended without them magically coming together and living happily ever after. xD

You did an amazing job with this picture, I adore how you've drawn Zachary!
